Teak is a tropical hardwood with a rich history and is commonly used today.
Teak wood’s strength, tight grain and high oil content make it a very durable material. To see teak furniture used both indoors and outdoors is very common today. But did you know teak wood has been used as a building material for over 2000 years? It’s durability was discovered through it’s use in building homes, tools and furniture in early Southeast Asia. It was also used in early boat-building in Europe and other regions because of it’s resistance to rot and mold.
During the Victorian era in the 19th century, enjoying time outdoors became a popular pastime. At the same time, old ships were demolished to be replaced by new designs. The salvaged Teak wood was used to build outdoor furniture and these items were soon seen across Europe. Teak is still on trend internationally today and is used in modern design.
